worked on her first book in 1965, a high school annual.
She designed
and illustrated the annual and fell in love with the production procees.
Her degree,
a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, introduced her to painting, sculpture and printmaking. Fine art was very solitary and she was more interested in manufacturing
and the enormous amount of people and effort it takes to create one book, particularly
a novelty book that requires expetise in not only art and type design, but technology
in order to manufacture it.
She believes' that the book is a sacred icon of the human
intellect and soul. The magic of worlds that are compressed into pictures and language,
existing between two cardboard covers, accessible to anyone by just opening a book,
is unique and ancient human accomplishment. Her intention has always been to stay
zany and connected to the juice that makes humans play.
